If you need something a little warmer or to protect your face from sunburn, we have caps, jackets and T-shirts for sale in our office. Soft sole shoes are recommended. We provide complimentary water, soft drinks, and light snacks, such as peanuts and/or pretzels. You’re welcome to bring your own camera, but we also take photos and videos of your San Diego Bay sailing tour. These photos and videos are available for viewing in our office after the sail while you enjoy complimentary refreshments. After they’ve been viewed, the pictures will be posted on Google Photos. At no extra cost, we will email you the link.
You do not have to be a billionaire or an elite, professional sailor to experience the thrill of sailing on San Diego Bay on an authentic America’s Cup Class racing yacht! Take the helm of Stars & Stripes USA-11 and live the dream for yourself. Feel the power of 4,000 square feet of modern Carbon Fiber 3DL sails on one of the fastest monohull sailboats in the world. You’ll be amazed at how responsive this carbon fiber racing machine can be. With more than 80% of her weight at the bottom of the keel, she slices through the water like a knife. No sailing experience is necessary to take part in this unique and exciting sailing adventure.   Once we leave the dock, we go into high gear because there is a lot to do! Stars & Stripes USA-11 raced to be the defender in the 1992 America’s Cup with a crew of 16. We will only have 6 or so crew members, so your help is greatly appreciated. It takes 6 able bodies grinding the winches to raise the mainsail, plus a few more to trim the sails each time we tack or gybe. Everyone also gets a turn at the helm to steer the boat. However, if you are inclined to just sit back and enjoy the ride, that’s fine too.

Do not be concerned about seasickness as we primarily sail on the smooth waters of San Diego Bay. We have done several hundred sailing charters and sailing tours with thousands of passengers, and we have never had anyone get seasick. But if you would like to take something before the trip for peace of mind, we recommend that you do so a couple of hours before the sail.

Our Sailboats

 Stars & Stripes USA-11

Sailing San Diego Bay on Stars & Stripes USA-11 is an extraordinary experience because it is an interactive sail on a historic vessel. Stars & Stripes USA-11 is an authentic America’s Cup racing yacht that has been completely restored to immaculate condition. A History of USA-11 In 1992 the International America’s Cup Class (IACC) of yachts was introduced, replacing the 12-meter class that had been used since 1958. Designed by David Pedrick and Bruce Nelson and built by Eric Goetz in Rhode Island, Stars & Stripes, USA-11 was Dennis Conner’s first IACC boat. In 1995, Stars & Stripes USA-11 was used by Dennis Conner in his 1995 campaign as a trial horse and then sold to the US Virgin Islands America’s Cup Challenge to be used in the 2000 America’s Cup races. After surviving several hurricanes, USA-11 was purchased in 2002, shipped to Miami to be completely refurbished and then sent across the country to be part of the San Francisco Challenge Series fleet. In 2006, Steve Pattison and Mark Niblack bought her and brought her home to San Diego. Stars & Stripes USA-11:

  • Has a mast that reaches over 11 stories tall
  • Is TWICE as fast as other charter sailboats in San Diego
  • 78’ in length
  • 17’ wide
  • Has plenty of room to freely move onboard

Il Moro ITA-16

Il Moro ITA-16 is used in our San Diego sailboat charters’ team-building experience. IL Moro can be chartered separately for groups of up to 12 people. Or it can be included to race against your coworkers aboard Stars & Stripes. Nearly identical, these authentic 1992 America’s Cup yachts were designed and built to be raced in San Diego. Depending on what you’d like as a company, our San Diego sailboat charters can be adjusted to reflect fun and enjoyment or create a strong team environment. We divide into partnerships of 2 or 3 to tackle 6 crew positions, rotating every 20 minutes to make sure everyone gets a chance to experience each task. America’s Cup racing yachts provide the perfect venue for dividing your guests into groups to race one another. Your guests will join our crew of 6 on each boat to form a team to get the maximum performance out of each racing yacht. Under the supervision of our crew, your team members will take the helm, make tactical decisions, and grind the winches to trim the sails. We will have a series of 3 races up and down San Diego Bay to see which team can make the claim of America’s Cup winners. Prior to the sail, we will provide a brief history of the America’s Cup and details of each boat. During the sail, a photographer will be on board each boat to document all the action for immediate viewing afterward in our club house. The price for both boats for the 3 hours on the water is $3,600. Water, soft drinks, light snacks, beer and wine are all included. There are no additional taxes or fees and crew gratuity will be at your discretion.

The Stars & Stripes experience provided by skipper Rod and his side kick Bee is nothing short of FANTASTIC! Lots of opportunity to participate in many ways or just sit back and relax enjoying the San Diego views. My boy and I participated in the grinding for trimming the sails and in skippering! The 3 hour event allows a lot of time to participate. We highly encourage this sailing experience. We will be back. SANDY SMITH

If you want a comfortable, interesting, exciting sailing trip in San Diego, this is the trip. You can participate in the operation of the sail as much or as little as you wish. It’s your choice, however, I found it exciting to participate in the “grinding” and the steering as it is easy and a fun experience. Also, Bee Hanna is extremely knowledgable and points out interesting facts about things you will see on this trip almost to the Coronado Bridge.
